Lacie 2Big Dock Storage & Back Up Solution & Why You Shouldn’t Buy It

SEASON 2 – EPISODE 1 – Lacie 2Big Dock Storage & Back Up Solution & Why You Shouldn’t Buy It

This is not so much a product review, but an exposé of Lacie’s blatant disregard for the environmental impact of supplying every storage and back up solution with three redundant leads that you will never ever use and have to dispose of correctly.

75 % of the power leads inside the box are redundant the minute they leave the factory in Thailand.

I am sure that Lacie are not the only company to do this, and that makes it worse, much worse. There needs to be legislation on this just as there was legislation that probably caused it in 1994.

The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 requires that domestic mains powered appliances are fitted with a standard plug conforming to BS 1363. Not sure if this was a European directive, but this practice of supplying four different leads, because it is logistically cheaper to do so is clearly an unintended consequence of this initiative.

We are all trying to reduce our carbon footprint and these companies (I am sure many others do this) are producing probably millions of these things a year that go straight to landfill.

So what to, there is probably nothing you can do, apart from share this video because these corporations will carry on saving probably pennies in their supply chain by creating this amount of waste, garbage, trash, plastic, rubber whatever it is, right up until they either get a conscious or that legislation stops them.
