Single Use Disposable Plastic Bags – Where Does The Cash Go?
SEASON 1 – EPISODE 5 – Single Use Disposable Plastic Bags – Where Does The Cash Go?
How Many Single Use Disposable Plastic Bags Do You Use Each Year? & Introducing The Poundland Game. In April 2016 in the UK we started charging 5p for each carrier bag that were previously given away for free, the difference was incredible. Large retailers in England sold 2.1 billion single-use plastic carrier bags during the year from 7 April 2016 to 6 April 2017.
This would be equivalent to each person in the population using around 25 bags during 2016 to 2017, compared to around 140 bags a year before the charge. Why are we still using 25 disposable plastic bags per person per year? What is wrong with us?.
Do we need to put the prices up so that people always bring their own? But where does the money really go, as supermarkets moved from effectively giving away 140 bags per person in 2015 to selling 25 per person in 2016.
