Tea Lights – What happens to the 750 tonnes of aluminium waste?
SEASON 3 – EPISODE 1 – Tea Lights – What happens to the 750 tonnes of aluminium waste?
Spent aluminium tea lights can be recycled forever and can be melted down and reformed without losing any quality, but you need to check with your local authority or recycling centre on how to recycle them properly in your home town.
In many places you need to remove all the residue wax first, otherwise these will go straight to landfill, and your next tea lights will need to be made from raw materials with an energy cost of 95% more than using recycled aluminium or aluminum.
In this video we go into a few methods of removing wax from tea lights including, boiling water, freezing, flaking and burning, and ask you to check on how to recycle tealights where you live.
