4,000 reasons why rechargeable batteries are better than disposables
SEASON 2 – EPISODE 6 – 4,000 reasons why rechargeable batteries are better than disposables
Single use batteries are surely as bad as single use plastic bags, so why is it that most people are still habitually using them. If you were selling batteries, wouldn’t you want to sell 4,000 instead of just one ?
Rechargeable battery technology is improving all of the time, but for high drain items such as cameras and vibrators it is possible for a a rechargeable battery to last 4,000 times as long as a single use disposable battery.
Is it any wonder that battery manufacturers are not promoting rechargeable batteries?
People in the UK throw away 22,000 tonnes of batteries a year, according to ESA, but less than 50% are recycled properly. You can dispose of batteries responsibly by using battery recycling points in most shops and supermarkets.
The National Fire Chiefs Council has said batteries in household waste and recycling facilities can lead to large-scale and protracted fires. There were almost 260 fires between April 2019 and March 2020 in recycling facilities and landfills.
What ever batteries you use, please make sure you dispose of the properly.
