About WAPAAT
Up until July 2020, like most people I thought doing my bit for the environment was being a diligent recycler, then probably through boredom during the pandemic and the first lock down I decided to give the plastic free July challenge a go, and failed miserably, and I thought, genuinely Why Aren’t People Angry About This?
There was no way that I could possibly get anywhere close to plastic free, and still can’t, although I have made great strides in that direction, and for most people this is still the case. I was cross with myself, cross with the system, cross with the supermarkets but most of all I was cross with governments for doing nothing, and I began to realise that our reliance on single use plastics is only a small part of the problem.
The staggering level of greenwashing from corporations and supermarkets, the apathy of governments to act, the lies and disinformation from the fossil fuel industries and the power that their vast wealth has given them over western governments whom I always believed and even trusted to be looking after our best interests simply drove me to even greater levels of fury.
This is a climate emergency
We are running out of time to save the planet before we reach irreversible tipping points that will permanently destroy our life support system here on earth. This is now common knowledge with 99% of the worlds scientists agreeing that man made climate breakdown is happening now, and is happening far quicker than we expected.
We are already seeing droughts, floods, storms, wildfires, rising sea levels and extreme weather events on a scale that we have never seen before, and this is already driving mass migration as people are becoming increasingly more desperate for their own future and the future of their children, yet our answer is not to address the cause of man made climate change but to close our borders while simultaneously incentivising our own populations to have more children to feed our societies not with people in need but with true western flag waving patriots.
Why Aren’t People Angry About This ?
The system is broken, yet people continue to use single use plastics, continue to drive their children to school in their SUV’s, continue to jet off around the World several times a year, continue to eat largely meat and fish based diets, 30 % of which they throw away, and to buy shit that they don’t need to replace other shit they didn’t need either.
So what to do; I started a YouTube channel called WAPAAT – Why Aren’t People Angry About This?, because I understood, that the reason people aren’t angry is because, quite simply they have their heads buried in the sand, and nobody can really believe that our leaders would lead us blindly like sheep towards total and irreversible climate breakdown, yet here we are heading for the abyss and carrying on as normal. We need to get our heads out of the sand before it is too late.
